The Great Lakes ADA Center is pleased to offer a variety of conferences and training opportunities regarding the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. Programs highlighted on this website are either conducted by and/or sponsored by the Great Lakes ADA Center . We are a member of the ADA National Network .
The ADA National Network provides a comprehensive set of services for up-to-date information, consultation, referrals, resources, and training on the Americans with Disabilities Act for businesses, employers, governmental entities, service providers and individuals with disabilities.
Arts and Recreation Webinar Series
This series brings together the ADA National Network , National Center on Accessibility (NCA) , the LEAD Program with The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and The Smithsonian Institution . The goal is to share their acquired knowledge and expertise in creating equal access and opportunity for people with disabilities in the areas of Arts and Recreation with the broader community. Sessions will focus on legal compliance issues, best practices in the field and practical "how to's" across a broad range of topics. The intended audiences include but are not limited to ADA Coordinators, Program Administrators and the Staff, Volunteer Program Administrators, Federal, State and Local Government Agencies and disability advocates.
Emergency Management and Preparedness - Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities Webinar Series
National state, and local entities and communities are increasingly planning emergency management and preparedness to handle disasters. Emergencies and disasters can be particularly concerning for people with disabilities. Successful outcomes for people with disabilities in disasters will depend on the how inclusive the plans are. These free webinars will focus on key strategies and approaches at various levels (federal, state, and local) toward emergency management and preparedness and the inclusion of people with disabilities.
Illinois Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service AmeriCorps Disability Outreach Program - Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities Webinar Series
The Illinois AmeriCorps Disability Outreach Program is a special project of the Illinois Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service. These free webinars will focus on training topics for organizations working toward the goal to promote the inclusion of people with disabilities as members of AmeriCorps programs in Illinois. Successful outcomes for people with disabilities in AmeriCorps programs will depend on the how inclusive the programs are. Volunteer programs can work toward achieving this goal by attending training on disability awareness and other related topics.
SECTION 508 BEST PRACTICES WEBINAR Series
This series of webinars will address a variety of issues associated with ensuring federal agencies have the knowledge they need to meet their obligations under Section 508. The series is co-sponsored by the Accessibility Committee of the CIO Council, the U. S. Access Board, and eFedLink/ODEP.
Understanding The Obligations Of Lodging Facilities To Meet The Needs Of Customers With Disabilities
The ADA National Network is hosting a series of six webinar sessions targeting the lodging industry to provide in-depth information on the impact of the revisions to the ADA regulations and accessibility standards. Several major policy and procedural changes are needed to meet these new requirements some of which had compliance dates of March 15, 2011 and others which are triggered on March 15, 2012. The sessions are designed to provide timely information by experts on various aspects of the regulations.The programs are 90 minutes in length and provided free to interested persons.
